LORD ALFRED TENNYSON(Created by: Bailey, Claire and Olimpia )
Biography:
Lord Alfred Tennyson was born in August, 6 1809 in Somersby, Lincolnshire England.
Tennyson was the 3rd child of 12.
Alfred's father was a rector of the parish.
His parents names were George Tennyson (father) and Elizabeth Fytche (mother).
He started writing poetry at a very young age in the style of Lord Byron.
His father wanted him to have a good education.
Tennyson’s first school that he attended was Louth Grammer School for four years (1816-1820).
Tennyson then entered Cambridge University in 1928, but he never got a degree because his father died suddenly.
Alfred always had a fear of illness all his life because of him having a lot of family members suffer in epilepsy which was then thought a shameful disease.
At Cambridge University Alfred joined a secret club named the Cambridge Apostles.
At this club Tennyson met Arthur Henry Hallam.
Hallam’s sudden death in 1833 was a crucial event in this poet’s life.
Tennyson became the most popular poet of the Victorian Era, but he avoided public life.
Alfred then married Emily Sellwood in 1850,
he had two sons Hallam (was named after his lost old friend, Authur) and Lionel
Tennyson’s long list of work showed his consistent inspiration and creativity.
Acclaimed by the whole nation Lord Alfred Tennyson was created a baron in 1883.
His full title was Baron of Aldworth and Farringford.
He wrote poetry for 42 years, creating lots of famous works such as, The Charge of the Light Brigade, In Memoriam A.H.H. Section 27, Locksley Hall Sixty Years After, " The Princess", and Crossing the Bar.
Tennyson is also remembered for a lot of his phrases that he wrote, that are still used in the English language today. Such includes "Nature, red in tooth and claw", "'Tis better to have loved and lost / Than never to have loved at all", "Theirs not to reason why, / Theirs but to do and die", "My strength is as the strength of ten, / Because my heart is pure", "Knowledge comes, but Wisdom lingers", and "The old order changeth, yielding place to new".
The poet unfortunatley died on October 6th 1892 because of influenza and is now buried and resting in peace Poet's Corne,Westminster Abbey, London, England.

Our poem:
The Charge of the Light Brigade
Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! "Charge for the guns!" he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Someone had blunder'd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the six hundred.
Flash'd all their sabres bare, Flash'd as they turn'd in air, Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke Right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reel'd from the sabre stroke Shatter'd and sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honor the charge they made, Honor the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred.
